In late 2013, my family was finalizing a sailing trip when my wife noticed I was having trouble with my right arm. She became concerned that I might be having a stroke or something similar, but when an MRI came up negative, she began researching Parkinson’s symptoms. Desperate for answers, we were able to see a neurologist early in January 2014, at which point I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s.

My wife gently pointed out to me that this was not the end of my life, merely a change in its direction, and I had two choices: I could take it lying down and let it define me, or I could fight like crazy, living the best life I could while doing what I love and setting examples for others. I chose the latter, and my journey with Parkinson’s began.

I came across a home cycling program that helped me exercise daily and meet others who were facing similar challenges. In addition to cycling, I love outdoor activities like fishing, hiking, and having new adventures.

As an Ambassador, I love to be that inspiration for others and to show my fellow community members that you can live well with Parkinson’s.
