Every Victory Counts® Parkinson's Guide

Linda SwansonLinda Swanson

Linda was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2009 at the age of 56. She and her husband, Mike, celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary in 2016 and have three grown children and four grandchildren. After Mike semi-retired 10 years ago, they relocated back to Texas to be closer to their family. They both continued to work after the move, but Linda retired from teaching after over twenty years in 2010. She completed her master’s in education/reading specialist just before she celebrated her 50th birthday and she still occasionally tutors privately.

Linda was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2009 after she hurt her back while training to do the Chicago Marathon, which would have been her third marathon. Linda has continued being active and has completed 10 half marathons since 2011. Her mission is to help change the “face” of Parkinson’s by being an active advocate in the Parkinson’s community. Linda has attended Dance for PD regularly since 2011, is an active member of Parkinson Voice Project’s LOUD CROWD, as well as a Parkinson Voice advocate. She is also active in the local Dallas Area Parkinsonism Society and was an assistant state director for the Parkinson’s Action Network. She also attends a weekly Bible study and has recently joined a book club. She spends her time at home working in her flower garden and enjoys doing jigsaw puzzles. Linda’s husband, Mike, is also featured in the Every Victory Counts manual.
