June 28 was a great day! A friend of mine, Wes, escorted me on his titanium and carbon-fiber Serotta road bike to the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson’s headquarters in Boulder, Colo., while Beth transported my bicycle trailer. What a reception. All of the foundation’s staff greeted me with hugs, a welcome sign and balloons. We shared delicious pizza. And Davis Phinney, an Olympic champion in cycling, visited with me as well, in spite of his busy schedule training his son, Taylor, for the Olympic bicycle road race.
Phinney is the first American to win a stage in the Le Tour De France and he is also living with Parkinson’s. I was pampered the rest of the day by Lauren Hunt, who works with the foundation, and my hosts, Margaret and Larry, at their home in Boulder.
You would think that day couldn’t be topped. But it was. Read the rest of the article here.
